  • Is Kiwipool Staking awesome?
Yes we are! ' Fact Checkers' unanimously agree that Kiwipool Staking is pure awesomeness! 'Experts' say this is because the Kiwipool community makes us THE best Stakepool operaton in Cardano. 🌍 Together, WE are 🥝𝘒𝘪𝘸𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨
  • What APR/ROS can be expected for staking?
The parameters for staking were initially optimised to produce around 5.0 to 5.5% ROS per annum (from Mainnet start back in August 2020). This will reduce incrementally by 50% over the first four years of Mainnet staking. At the end of the first four years, annual ROS will be around 2.5% to 2.75%. As at December 2021 ROS sits at around 4.5% on average.
  • What is an 'Epoch' and how long is it?
An Epoch is a measure of time. Rewards are paid out on a per-Epoch basis. An Epoch has a duration of 5 Days (120 hours). Accordingly, there are 73 Epochs per year
  • Do I have to send you my ADA in order to stake?
No. Your funds will stay in your wallet at all times. You should NEVER, EVER send funds to a Stakepool. Your funds will remain in your wallet and under your control at all times. Your funds are also never "locked" so you can send or move funds at any time. Delegation is simply the process of requesting a pool to mint blocks on your behalf.
  • How do Pool Fees work?
The Ouroboros consensus algorithm requires a pool to charge the following fees: - A Per Epoch Fee (compulsory minimum of ₳340)- A Margin (can be anywhere from 0 to 100%) Using the following example: Per Epoch fee: ₳340Pool Margin: 2.00% Net Pool Rewards = Total Rewards - Per Epoch Fee - Pool Margin In the hypothetical example below, KIWI has 8,000 delegators and mints 50 blocks for the epoch. Assuming Total rewards for the epoch were ₳40,000. First the per epoch fee is deducted --> ₳40,000 - ₳340 = ₳39,660. The pool margin is --> 2.00% of ₳39,660 = ₳793.20 Net Pool Rewards --> ₳40,000 - ₳340 - ₳793.20 = ₳38,866.80 The Net Pool Rewards of ₳38,866.80 are divided up in proportion to stake amongst all 8,000 'Active' delegators in that epoch.
  • Do I need to redelegate each epoch?
No. Your wallet will remain delegated indefinitely. Any new funds added into your wallet will automatically add to you balance and will form the value of your future 'Active' delegation.
  • How long does it take to receive rewards?
In brief, it takes two epochs (10 days) for your first delegation to become 'Active' and a further two epochs (10 days) after becoming active before the rewards earned from your active delegation are paid directly into your wallet. It will take up to 20 days in total from first delegation until receipt of first rewards. Example: Epoch 269 - Staked Epoch 271 - Stake becomes ACTIVE (takes 2 epochs) Epoch 272 - Rewards for Epoch 271 Calculated on-Chain Epoch 273 - Rewards earned for E271 paid out in the transition between Epoch 272/273 Rolling rewards thereafter
  • Do I need to do anything to claim rewards?
No, rewards are automatically paid out by the protocol in the transition between each epoch. Each epoch, rewards will be disbursed for the rewards earned two epochs prior. Rewards will be paid into the staking address associated with your wallet. The Yoroi wallet allows you to 'claim rewards' but there is no real need to do this as the wallet software will automatically claim rewards in the event that you need to send funds from your wallet. Claiming rewards manually will incur unnecessary transaction fees and is not required under most circumstances
  • Are Stakepool Operators involved in the Rewards Payout Process?
No. All Reward payments are made automatically on-chain by clever code built into the Ouroboros Protocol
  • Is there a transaction fee to stake ADA?
Yes. In order to stake, the 'staking address' associated with your wallet first needs to be registered on-chain. This will be done autmatically by your wallet the first time you delegate your stake. An amount of approximately ₳2.2 will be decucted at this time. Of this amount, ₳2 is a refundable deposit and the ₳0.2 is a non-refundable transaction fee. The deposit will be refunded in the event that you undelegate your wallet. The undelegation process will also incur a transaction fee of around ₳0.2 so you will receive back your initial ₳2 deposit, less the ₳0.2 = around ₳1.8
